Recent shows

Portland has a great and relatively inexpensive music scene! Last week we saw Phantogram and the following night saw Wye Oak. I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few...

Frustration

I think we are both seriously ready for all the move-in drama to be completed and over with already. It feels like we've been living in boxes for the last 6 weeks, if not 6 months. And this is totally one of those times when it's frustrating beyond all reason to not actually own the property in which we live. Had this been our home in NM, we would've had this taken care of the day we moved in, or at least the following day. But no, as a renter dealing with a rental company that manages numerous houses across the city, we're one house in a series of houses that are being farmed out to other contracting companies to have work done. Miscommunications happen, things get turned around, mixed up, misplaced, and screwed, and there really isn't any one person to which the complaints can be sent, because so many people handle the issues. Sometimes simultaneously. It's a disadvantage.

So I'm sitting on my hands, restraining my over-eager trigger finger from shooting of an email or phone call to the last person with whom I spoke and yelling ... in a super quiet rage voice ... that this is unacceptable. I work from home. We LIVE here. To have to have everything smooshed into various rooms and be unable to unpack and get settled, basically put our lives on hold, until this is handled and the handling taking two weeks now is horrible. At this point I feel like everything is being put on hold until this gets done. We can't finish unpack. We can't get the things we need to finish unpacking (furniture), we can't get comfortable in our own space, we can't even maintain our privacy by hanging curtains correctly until this is all done and taken care of. It's a distraction and it sucks.

But I swear, at 10:01 a.m., if there is not someone on the front porch waiting to be let in to change the carpet, I am going to lose my shit on someone, somewhere. In a calm and dignified manner, of course, but lose my shit nonetheless.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sleepy ladies

These are our little lady babies... Napping all over me and the house. Yeah, I'd say they are all settled in.

progress!

And with the work day comes progress on some of our pressing concerns!!

  • Water heater has been fixed and is currently filling and heating water as I type. I'm so ready for a hot shower I can't even begin to explain my excitement at this. Seriously. Camping in your own house with naught but baby wipes or a cold shower to clean BLOWS.
  • Carpet is going to be replaced in the front room! It's sad that they didn't just do it the first time, considering how much time Mr invested trying to get the smell out himself, but at least it will be done and we will be set.
  • Office hooked up and looking more like an office! I'm so stoked to have my art back up on the walls and things finding their homes. It's a great feeling to be reorganized and happy.
  • Lawnmower is currently charging (yeah, battery operated - who'da thunk??!) and Mr will be attempting a mow some time tomorrow, I believe.
I'm really happy, also, that my work day is more than half over. With only 3.5 hours left in my work day, I think I may really enjoy this new schedule. :)

Not back to work again!

Well, this weekend flew by entirely too quickly!

We have definitely had some hiccups getting moved in and settled this weekend, but I'm happy to say that we have a roof over our heads, food for our bellies, and our animal babies are all acclimating just fine. The cats have made themselves at home and quite comfortable, while Lola is still feeling things out. I've been trying to walk her as often as I can manage between getting things unpacked and exhaustion, and going back to work will definitely help create a schedule for that.

The house itself is definitely a work in progress. We had an Ikea trip yesterday, along with a couple of trips to home depot and sears. Every room is about half done, and mostly it's my office and our bedroom that are he least organized. The kitchen is jam packed! The living room is coming together well... Despite the horrible carpet and smell, which Mr has spent so much time working to get out. Once the carpet is dry and we can arrange all the furniture how we like it, and we finish hanging art and photos, it'll be done. The dining area was easiest and just needs per stuff and art/photos. The bathroom is good to go, too. The rest, well, that will just take some time. I did manage to reorganize the garage and create some method to the madness and was super pleased that we don't really have too many more boxes to go.

Of course, I'm dying to unpack my shoes and boots, but until everything is off the floor in my office, it'll have to wait. Mr still has all his clothes and personal momentos to unpack, so maybe tomorrow? He has been so busy trying to create order in the spaces we see most, so he hasn't had enough hours in the day to do his stuff. Once that is figured out, it'll be good!

Here are some random shots from this weekend. I promise house shots will come (along with the first look video) as soon as I post from my computer and not my phone...

G'night!!
