First night

I'll have to figure out how to upload the video I made of the house before we filled it with furniture and boxes. We are happily spending our first night in our new home!! There were some hiccups (of course), like the carpet being a wreck in the living/dining areas, some cosmetic issues with walls, windows, doors, as well as some functionality issues with lights, doors, sinks, and closets.... And the Ayer heater leaking. All of these things are being noted and the water heater is being taken care of Monday. All that aside though, the house is super cute and in one night we were able to get quite a bit done! I'm excited to finish my office and get my clothes put up, along with Mr's. I'm also really excited to go grocery shopping!!! That'll be wonderful!!

So tomorrow means groceries, Ikea, and more setup. Hopefully things will fall into place more and we will be all set. Once we are, another video I will make and get it posted with the first.

Goodnight for now!

More bear

Always more bear

Wednesday

Mocha Mama's Good Coffee was our locale of choice today. And of course, bear had to have some grass time.

Meeting with a friend

We are waiting. And as always, goofing off. I think it's what we do best. This place is called paddy's.

Lease signed

Yay!!! We signed the lease on our place today!! Starting 6/29 we will be living in a cute little bungalow in the southeast of Portland for the next year. As noted yesterday, it comes with strawberries and snow peas in the front yard, as well as a fenced in backyard with a little covered patio area in back. It is a small little bungalow, but my hope is that we will be happy living there for a year or two or three... It would make me very pleased to be there a while and get to know the city more while we decide what our next major life steps are going to be.

I'm also really excited about the neighborhood. It's not too hipster, but it's close to some cute places and I can't wait to explore the area. It's also close to Mr's store so he can ride his bike (or even walk) to work and we can enjoy lunches together.

We get the keys Friday morning and I can't wait!!

Sunshine in Portland

Is magic. I mean, we are from the southwest so we are used to sunshine in mass quantities (wow! NM is already hitting 100+ this week), but the sun here is a totally different experience. It's like this shy neighborhood cat who only visits sometimes, when you're not really looking, but when you catch a glimpse, you feel like purring because the elusive cat makes you feel so special. It's amazing.

Surprises abound

We came to check our house and I found strawberries!! And snow peas!! And the bedrooms have closets!! This is awesome....

And evening out in the park

Cleaning day!

Well, today started out after 12 hours of sleep with a nice walk for Lola and some delicious waffles for us. I went savory while Mr went sweet.

We visited the cats, all of whom seem rather out of sorts, and checked on our truck. We now sit at a laundromat getting all of the cat pee soaked blankets from Duckie clean and doing our own laundry. It'll be nice having some clean clothes in addition to what little I packed to last through this week. Mr is lucky that all of his clothes fit into one duffle bag... If only I had that "problem" as well! Ha!

We are going to embark on a wandering adventure after this and then who knows? Tomorrow we have a few more errands to run, so we shall see how the week begins. I feel like we are on a constant countdown for things happening in life... Only five more days until we move into our house!!

Views from the road today

WE MADE IT!!!

And are killing time before we check into our room for the week (thanks AirB&B)... It's been a long three days but we are all safe and sound. We are enjoying dinner al fresco with turkey meatloaf, potato salad, and an IPA to share.

Day 3

Up early and on the side of the road we had a dog poo on shoe incident. About an hour after that it was nap time. We didn't really sleep as much as we thought we had, so in a quiet little rest area in a valley between the hills, we caught a quick cat nap. It was lovely!

We are breaking for breakfast in Baker City at a quaint little diner.

So far, Oregon is beautiful. We have probably close to 6 hours left to go, so by early afternoon we will be able to park the truck, drop the kitties off at the kennel and start our week of waiting for the keys to our new place. I'm ready to not be in Duckie for a while and to have a bed to sleep in.

So close!!

Oh! And...

Utah loves The Labyrinth... There is a Goblin Valley and Hog(g)les Zoo. For real.

We made it to Boise and are spending the evening with my friend, Candice. We have known each other since high school, so going on 16 years now. I am so stoked to see her!! See??

Mr and I are tired... See? Best the fuck up!!

North Utah

Lunch break

We are somewhere near Ogden Utah, but not sure exactly where.

Things I've learned about Utah in the last 24 hours:
There is a fair mix of desert and mountains
They like numbered streets here, like 3100, 2600, and 400 So or No
Road kill so far has been a great Dane (in the middle of nowhere) and a deer (in the middle of freaking Provo on a busy freeway!)
Provo is also on fire, which is sad, as we could literally see the flames as we were driving through the smoke cloud through the city
It is windy, hot, and dusty here

And that sums up my knowledge of Utah so far. 40 some miles till we switch freeways or interstates and head for Boise, ID.

Resting in Green River

Exhausted

We are taking a break for the night. Green River, Utah doesn't have much to offer but they do have a pet friendly place to stay! We are going to crash out so hard tonight and resume our adventure tomorrow. I'm anticipating SLC, Boise, and who knows how far we will get from there.

Until then...

Utah is pink

Woooo

We hit Utah!! Monticello to be exact. 7 hours in and we still have a few to go. May not make SLC, but we don't have to check in anywhere until Saturday, so we are good.

I don't know which mountains these are, but they look so soft I wish I could touch them like a velvet painting.

Sleepy travel companion

Bear

On the road

It's happening!!

For the record I attempted to post this around 7 am today, however, we won't out of range of our service so it wasn't posted until I caught the mistake much later.

Holy biscuits!!

Moving out of a house is hard work!!

About 1/3 of the way through final cleanup and we are both so exhausted and ready for this part of our adventure - the packing and cleaning part - to be done.

Not looking forward to goodbyes or tears, but I look forward to having a moment to relax a bit. We have been non-stop since 7:30 this morning. Lowe's, breakfast burritos, pick up a truck, load said truck, take load to the dump, deliver a trellis, pack more randoms, clean, clean, clean, clean, clean... And we are not yet done.

Once we are, though... Ah, it'll be so sweet!! Pics to come!

No rest for the wicked?

I am wide awake at 4:33 am on our last day in NM and it's making me crazy. I awoke to all three cats snuggled up on my side of the air mattress and the air mattress losing air (and heat), and Mr awoke for a minute, too. I can hear his breathing evening out into sleep rhythms, though, and I'm super jealous.

Today will be a busy and trying day. We have lots of running around and trash throwing out to do, as well as the final clean up. Pardon our mess in those last pictures... We have so much to clean up! We will have some help this afternoon, so that will be good.

I really hope we sleep early tonight. Friends have opened their home to us for the night, so we will be crashing on their futon with Lola and the kitties will be snuggling in a smaller room for their own safety and our sanity. I am worried about them, but they did fairly well in the kennel yesterday while chaos ensued, so I have hope they'll make it through this relatively unscathed.

I'll try to update later today at some point... Wish us luck!

So empty

Our house...

Thank you

This is what happens when you have good friends, an evening, and see solid determination to just get. It. Done.

So blessed for perspective, help, friends, patience, and love. It's all coming together....
